2026.02.27 Citizenship In Heaven
Hello friends,
If you ever watch the news you can see how much this world needs Jesus. It’s sad to see so many angry people doing angry people things. Sometimes I sit and reflect on these two scriptures:
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33 NIV
“For this world is not our permanent home; we are looking forward to a home yet to come.”
Hebrews 13:14 NLT
I take comfort in the fact that Jesus is offering us peace in Himself. He defeated death and has overcome the world. Not only that, but the world is not our true home. If you’ve accepted God’s free gift of salvation then your citizenship is in heaven.
So what do we do when we see the news? We pray, we pray God intervenes the life of broken people. We shine the Light in this dark and broken world. We cling to the Hope we have in Jesus, and we share that Hope to anyone that will listen.
What about when we feel WE are the broken ones? When life starts to feel too cruel or hopeless? We pray, we pray God intervenes in our life and shines His Light on us and shows us the Hope we have in Jesus. We turn to our brothers and sisters in Christ for encouragement and support and we let them in; we let them in so they can remind us of the Hope we have.
Just recently I was sitting in church during prayer meeting feeling lonely. My church seems to over emphasize the husband’s role in the household which feels like it emphasizes my singleness more. So as I sat there praying I let God know how I was feeling. I wanted someone to pray with me, but I didn’t want to ask anyone, I really wanted someone to choose to come talk to me. James came up so unexpectedly to check on me and pray with me. (A few of his kids were sick so his wife and kids stayed home.) He came alone which meant he had flexibility to pray with others. He’s one of those people so full of love and compassion that he’s easy to open up to. So I was able to share about my depression and he prayed with me. It felt genuinely nice. It was a reminder that although we walk different paths in life (he’s married with more than a couple kids, and I’m neither married nor a mother), as long as we have our faith in common, we are alike. Talking with James helped me to see the Light and remember to have Hope. This world is only temporary, my citizenship is in heaven.
What about you? What do you need to remind you of the Hope we have in Jesus? How can the readers and I pray for you? Please leave a comment or send an email. I’d love to hear from you.
I am a follower of Christ, I am not perfect, but I love Jesus.
Until Next Time,
Liz Allen
